Kinja'd!!!

I’ve been rebooked from my flight to Dallas to now flying into Nw Arkansas. Although looking at the map, I don’t quite understand how the weather is any better so we shall see if I make it there and/or get stuck in Arkansas forever. I checked a bag today as well so I’m wondering what the odds are of my bag being lost forever as well. Fun day of work travel!

How is your Tuesday going?

Update:

As of 1700 Central time I’m still in Fayetteville, AR after arriving here around 1300. My next flights were canceled twice and now I’m scheduled for the 2000, the last flight of the night. Really hoping I don’t get stuck here overnight... At least lunch was good, had a nice medium rare burger with Swiss, bacon, and all of the fixings. Decently proper meal for airport food. Guess I might be having dinner there as well, maybe I’ll try the pulled pork sandwich with burnt end beans as a side this time or the brisket cheesesteak.

Update to the update:

As of 2100 I am STILL in Arkansas. Apparently this time there was a maintenance delay on the incoming plane from Dallas and then there were no pilots for the plane once it was finally ready. What a marathon of a day! It is planning to finally take off soon but I don’t have my hopes up. Since its a maintenance delay the airline would have to pay for a hotel for the night. But I’m still holding out hopes we make it out of here. I’ll be getting to my hotel after midnight tonight but at least I’d make it there. Still hoping!

Anybody have some sick gifs?

Update 3:

Its now 2330 and I'm finally finally on a damn plane!! By the time I get to my hotel I'll have been awake for about 22 hours but man I'll finally have made it. Gotta grab some McDonald's since it's 24 hour and right next to the hotel so I can walk. All I care is that I'm finally almost done with this day.

I checked a bag today as well so I’m wondering what the odds are of my bag being lost forever as well.

I was flying from ATL to Tyumen Russia via JFK then SVO. Well, my flight out of ATL got delayed and took off at the same time the flight I was supposed to be on took off from JFK. Since I knew this ahead of time, I had them put me on a different flight out of JFK. Well apparently, something happened with my bag, I made it to Moscow, but my bag didn’t. Luckily, I was able to find someone that worked at Areoflot and spoke English. She was able to tell me that they at least knew where my bag was. It eventually arrived 2 days later at my final destination. Long way to say, I’m pretty sure if the Russians can get me my bags, I’m sure you’ll be alright.

Dallas looks much closer to the storm than Arkansas, you might be able to make it there and get stuck in it after you land, or if you’re flying out again, maybe get out in time.  It seems to be slow moving, unless it’s just two separate systems that look similar a day apart.

3 accidents and a car fire on the freeway I normally take in to work, which led me to wind my way through some very unsavory areas of Detroit (got my first up-close look at the Packard plant) and eventually through the New Center section by Woodward. Where- in their infinite wisdom- construction projects closed a lane on alternating sides of the road. i.e. the left lane would be closed for a bit, then 500 yards down the road the right lane would be closed, and so on. I used to wonder what caused people to road rage, now I get it.

oh, and it’s all compounded by the fact that these road construction projects are all about a month behind schedule due to a work stoppage over a contract dispute.  Which is the kind of thing that should have been taken care of before any of them started.

I’m about 6mi west of DFW Airport and I can confirm that it is storming quite strongly.

I just hope that Saturday stays dry so I can finally have a rain free track day. All of our rain for the last 5 months just waited until a few weeks ago to show up all at once.

Is that the apex driving Academy hpde? I’ve been considering going to that if I don’t have work that day (unlikely) . Probably renting a car to do it in if that were the case lol.

That sounds nuts. At least I'm on the clock and being paid to browse reddit and watch movies all day now. So I've got the real first world problem over here lol. At least it's not snowing on you yet I guess! I recall after Hurricane Irene in NJ I spent two hours trying to get to work and ended up having to turn around and go home because a major highway had become a literal river and so there was no way to make it to the office at all.

I’ve heard Fayetteville is a pretty cool college town. I’ve also heard airfares to NW AR are usually insanely expensive because of the Walmart business travelers (captive audience).

Interesting haha. I had only heard of the town before since I stopped in the Ozarks on my cross country drive and recalled seeing it on the map and road signs. Hoping there is some sort of food option in the terminal since it'll definitely be lunch time by then.

Great Value BBQ, Sam’s Choice Pizza, and Equate Sandwiches.

All of them are just as good as real brands, they promise!

I actually quite like some of the great value stuff, it's not bad. Equate actually makes really affordable options too. Their dramamine alternative makes me wayyyy less drowsy and still works pretty well. That would be some garbage BBQ though haha

It’s a pretty cool town. They host a huge cross country race we went to every year. I think it’s this weekend, actually. Hopefully it dries up by then haha.

Good luck getting to DFW! My friend in Houston just sent me a picture of the radar and it seems nasty.

Yes, I’m an instructor with Apex. They run great events.

There are rental race cars, you could rent a Spec Miata or RX8 at Cresson ( https://goteammer.com/services/track-ready-rentals/ ) . Looks like either is $700, which isn’t terrible but not cheap.

A “normal” rental car will have brake issues (it’s been done before though).

If you don’t feel too bad, and if it doesn’t violate the terms of service, you could rent something cool from Turo.

If you can only make it for an hour or two , I could always give you a ride in my BRZ (that’s usually free as long as you sign the insurance waiver).

Hopefully it does and you can get to Dallas before it’s too late! I’m assuming it’s a small plane? Those really do not like the weather haha. At least it’s a work trip so if you need to book a room tonight, it’s not your money.

I’m going to CO this weekend. I asked my brother before I booked if he thought it was going to be warm enough to Mt. Bike. He said it’s still usually warm. The forecast shows snow and a low of 15. I guess I’m not biking! It will be cool to see snow but I’m going to freeze my ass off lol

I’ve been tracking my Miata on stock brakes, it’s been acceptable lol. It’s something I’ve been meaning to at least put in some better pads but the fading hasn’t been that bad. Definitely noticeable though so it’s in the plans. I’ve considered Turo but it’s definitely against their terms of service. But I cannot confirm or deny that I’ve violated their rules before... Still regular rental would be laughable and I wouldn’t feel bad about it at least.

But yeah current plan is to be working all day Saturday and Sunday unfortunately. And with missing all of today due to mine and coworkers flight delays, that’s looking more likely. If it does work out as an off or short day I’ll definitely try to contact you though. I would love a ride along and just to see cars for a bit. Sure beats sitting at the hotel and eating food all day!

Haha that sounds sick though at least. You should get some fall color down low and snow up high. So even if you don’t get to bike, it’ll be some awesome views. I loved seeing snow at Rainier this weekend in Seattle, it’s just nuts to see snow in October to me.

And yeah if I wasn't here for work this would suck ass way more. I could care less really since I'm on the clock the whole day. I had work I wanted to get done but I'm working all weekend anyways so it should work out anyways.

It will be fun, even if I just drink whiskey and watch the snow come down. A change of pace from LA, for sure.

Getting stuck sucks when you are salary, and are still expected to get the same amount of work done, even though you were shorted a day. If you are hourly, NBD. Bummer you have to work all weekend, but at least your aren’t in a super awesome place you are dying to explore lol

I was on the 7am flight out of LAX. That is generally the earliest flight I can stand doing. Even that requires waking up at 4am anyways. Unfortunately the 6am flight actually made it and I was there just early enough that I totally would have made it before it left. And my coworkers were stuck on a layover to Salt Lake and are in the air to Dallas now. Just how the shit works out unfortunately.

I have no idea haha. I was thinking the same thing. It seems highly likely now that I’ll make my 8pm flight so that is the ideal scenario. But yeah its really not all that far to drive (like 5 hours) and would certainly keep me on schedule at that point. Although I had checked hotel rates/availability with my travel people and that is a far cheaper option. I already took one leg of my flight so that's nonrefundable now as well and I'm stuck until American decides to fly me either way. Here's to hoping I get on the plane at 8!

Chicken and egg: Even a high airfare can seem cheap compared to taking a half-empty corporate jet. They probably have pretty strict guidelines on all that.

It'll be annoying for sure but I'll be taking an Uber to my hotel since I'm not picking up a car anyways. If I could have gotten a flight at like 7 or 8 am, I would have preferred that. But the next flight was at 4pm tomorrow so I'd miss another day of work which is definitely not preferred. I can just sleep in a bit and go in later tomorrow at least.

Some years back, I went for a job interview at Bowling Green State . I flew to C hicago, then had to catch a puddle jumper to Toledo ( IIRC it was an ERJ 145 ) . We pushed back from the gate at Chicago, and it was so windy that the plane was rocking back and forth on the tarmac. The captain came on the intercom and said, “It’s too windy. I’m not flying today.” So, back to the terminal we went. The airline was in the process of getting a charter bus to carry everybody to Toledo, so I got on the phone to the school and offered to rent a car and drive, and they said they’d pay for it. There was another interviewee on the flight with whom I had happened to strike up a conversation , and they asked if I’d bring him too. And then some random college girl who was going to visit her boyfriend  asked if she could come along. It made for a fun drive, especially when the girl was telling us about how she used to collect semen from the boars on her family farm. I didn’t get the job, but that’s okay.

Yeah, I see that. I’ve only Ubered from DFW once. I usually wait for the remote shuttle to my car for the long drive all the way over to East Dallas.

And why are the first 10 shuttles to come by the ones to Remote South when I’m parked in Remote North and vice versa when I’m parked at Remote South?

Kinja'd!!! Wrong Wheel Drive (41%) > Chariotoflove

Haha the parking shuttles are a real shit show at LAX. Since all of the traffic for all 8 terminals is all one road and every shuttle for every hotel, parking lot, rental car company, and the various other busses go to one place. It's absolute hell at a busy time. I've waited over an hour for parking shuttles and nearly that long for an Uber as well. It's why I try really hard to fly at off times or avoid that airport entirely. I wish I could use Love Field in Dallas but the flights cost more so work says no.

First of all screw LAX for sure.

Yes, Southwest is supposed to be the discount champ, but I rarely find a flight from Love Field that American or someone else at DFW doesn’t beat, except in rare promotional cases.  I do like Love Field better because it’s smaller and closer.  One thing though is that SW planes don’t have a closet in the cabin, so I have to let them check my chair to the hold, and I hate, hate, HATE that.  Oh well.
